The research is true! The BEST way for you to help your child to improve his/her reading is sit down and read a good book together! A way to motivate your child to read is to have him/her pick out a book that he/she is interested in, that was the child feels like it is more of his/her choice than a chore.
- Ask comprehension questions, such as: *What happened in the story? *Who are the characters? *Where are the characters? |
Often students feel less motivated because they do not see why those skills are important. Something as simple as a grocery list can change that. Have your child be the Grocery List Manager. His/her duty is to write down what is needed at the store and then when you are at the store, his/her duty is to read the items off of the list. By giving reading and writing applicable purposes, the children will see more value in these skills. To include math in the process, count the items in the cart together, as you are checking out.
